Sažetak
Alcoholism is a devastating disorder affecting up to 10% of the general population. Besides the environmental factors, the contributions of genetic factors has been sugested by twin-, family- and adoption studies. Biochemical studies have indicated the involvement of srotonin (5HT) system in the regulation of alcohol intake. Since 5HT transporter (5HTt) plays an important role in regulation of 5HT transmission, its gene could be considered as a candidate for vulnerability to alcoholism.
