Sažetak
INTRODUCTION: According to criteria of WHO oral lichen ruber (OLR) is precancerpous lesion of the oral mucosa. In local immunoreaction, where keratinocytes and immunocompetente cells act, dysplastic or malignant transformation of oral epithelium can be induced. Recently, in early diagnosis of premalignant and malignant lesions, like OLR, detection of specific antigens in epithelium is applied. One of them is c-erbB-2 antigen, which can be potential indicator of malignancy. AIM: The aim of study was to determine intensity of c-erbB-2 tissue expression in bioptic specimens of OLR. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The investigation included patients with clinical and pathohistological diagnosis of OLR. Control group consisted of persons with oral leukopakia, pathohistological determined as leukoplakia simplex. Methods in this study were clinical and immunohistochemical tests in bioptic samples.Intensity of inflammation, hyperkeratosis and lesions were determined by clinical tests. Immunohistochemical tests of c-erbB-2 antigen expression in bioptic samples were made using ABC method after hot treatment in microwave oven. RESULTS: Results showed a mosaically expressed immunohistochemical reaction and an altered intensity of reaction in OLR lesions compared with leukoplakia simplex where reaction was of uniformed type. CONCLUSION: Observed altered tissue expression of c-erbB-2 antigen can be connected with the possibility of malignant transformation in OLR lesions and it can be an early diagnostic and prognostic criterium of this oral disease.
