Sažetak
Proventriculitis with subsuquent proventricular ulcer fol lowed by gizzard erosion and melena were found with an incidence of 30% as a cause of death during necropsies of different species of 34 pet birds in the last 18 months. The examinided bird were extremely cachectic and exicotic. In all proventriculi a great amount of whitish mucous masse and a rather thin proventriculus gizzard junction wall with discrete haemorrhages in its mucosa were found. Microscopally examined gram stained proventricular mucosa smears revealed rod shaped, gram positive, 2 to 40 um large organisms in 80% of birds with proventricular lesions. Considering the anamnestic data, pathomorphological, histological and cytological findings including the present knowledge of the cause proventriculitis associated with the going light syndrome in budgerigars and some other species of pet birds, the organisms were idenifield as mega bacteria.
