Sažetak
Epidemiologic investigations indicate Gorski Kotar, Croatia, a mountainous region in north-west Croatia, to be an area with a high prevalence rate of multiple sclerosis (MS) and distinct familial aggregation of the disease. This paper analyses the distribution of tissue compatibility antigen in MS patients from this region and ascertains a possible association of certain HLA loci with infections transmitted by neurotropic viruses. Tissue compatibility antigen research in Gorski Kotar, Croatia confirms the well-know fact that MS is significantly associated with the HLA-DR2 antigen in the areas with a high prevalence rate of the disease.
