Sažetak
The Bay of Kotor represents a complete area on the southern part of the Eastern Adriatic with some outstanding landascape features originated either by position of its mountains or by the fact that it is a comparatively narrow, but steep and branched out bay. The slopes of both Orjen and Lovćen mounts stand as a frame of this fascinating area. The Bay of Kotor is divided into two parts by the straits of Verige. In the front part the mountain slopes are slighter and the soil is more extended and deeper. This part abounds in evergreen Mediterranean macchia in addition to large oak tree groves. The front part of the Bay communicates with a considerably wider area: on the east with Budva through the vast field of Tivat, and on the west with Dubrovnik, allong the valley of the small river Sutorina. Here the tourist industry has been developed, while the tourist-complex Herceg-Novi - Igalo is of a particular importance. It is characteristic for this tourist-complex that strong influence of former attitudes toward geen areas of a coastal tourist locality is still felt by emphasizing an exaggerated importance of exotic elements of the vegetation. According to our opinion the contemporary approach to the arrangement of the vegetational components in the landscape of a tourist locality on the coast should be different, as to be based on the cognitional values of original landscape. The back part of the Bay is surrounded by steep mountains branching out into two parts and each of which forms a smaller bay. There one can encounter a number of ancient places with rich past and autochthonous architecture which is in exceptional harmony with environment. This part of the Bay has all the characteristics of a historical landscape. Yet, the harmony has been disturbed in some places. The problem of extending these places is present and it threatens to disturb the definite relations between the coastal localities and the untouched of non-built coastal line. Urbanists should therefore pay a particular attention to the restauration of the old abandoned buildings and revitalisation of the ancient places in order to prevent a non-controlled building threatening to disturb here and there harmonious relations between coastal localities and the untouched nature of the non-built coastal line. There is a special problem of the recultivation of the soil bordering the populated areas, particulary by renewing olive-groves as traditional vegetational components on Southern Adriatic. The Bay of Kotor, taken as a whole, represents a specific combination of some elementary creations of a landscape - the one of the mountain range covered here and there with thicker or thinner spontaneous vegetation, of smooth surface of the sea and firmament with somewhere preserved littoral architecture, and all this is scented by an atmosphere characteristic for the type of the landscape, the one we have called "epic". The study of the nature and landscape of the Bay of Kotor should, therefore, contribute to the preservation of the authenticity of this exceptional area, being of a particular importance for the development of tourism, since the contemporary tourism is interested in sincere appreciation of an area.
