Sažetak
The main goal of this work is to present an experience in the management and communication system for information that consists of not only pure data but also of the images. Here we deal with the development of distributed computer systems providing storage, processing, and communication services required by banking and card management application. The critical issue of such systems is the handling of multimedia information, which consists of text, images , graphics, voice and video. Our experience is mainly in the storage, processing, and transmission of the text and images, which are main parts of banking documents. The design architecture, and concepts used in the image database system, along with its performance evaluation are presented. The performance evaluation is focussed on the response times of an image database server for various retrieval requests sent by workstations.
