Sažetak
Developments in the theoretical and practical foundations regarding the valuation of public goods seem to be the subject of growing interest, lively debated in the academic literature. An indication of the importance of this area of economics is the emergence and implementation of different measurement techniques developed to uncover the economic values attached to non-marketed goods. Among various valuation techniques accessible, Stated Preferences and, in particular, the Choice Modelling option, are being used to an increasing extent. The study aims to assess the applicability of the Choice Experiment analysis in the context of an impure public service - Higher Education, using the responses to a questionnaire administered at Staffordshire University. An attempt has been made to measuring the values of different teaching practices and identifying individual students’ characteristics which might influence their choices over teaching practices. Apart from providing insights into Staffordshire University students’ preferences and their perceptions of the quality of current teaching practice, such an investigation seems useful as it facilitates sound appraisal within the cost-benefit framework and, consequently, offers practical guidelines for the management of Staffordshire University. The study and its results might be interesting and important for different kinds of viewers. Primary beneficiary would be the management of Staffordshire University concerned with the quality of the teaching services offered, as the results of implementation of this technique help to address the needs of the students more clearly, and to tailor new learning experiences that conform to such a demand more efficiently. This is, in turn, helpful in terms of achieving long turn profitability. The other viewers that may have interest in this study are theorists and practitioners with general interest in non - market and quasi - market valuation. Finally, managers of firms that tend to be innovative might have an interest in considering the implementation of the technique used in this study as it proved to be applicable and useful as a rich source of information when it comes to forecasting demand for non-existing products with new attributes or features, extending current production line, etc.
