Sažetak
The wetland of Kopački rit is situated in the Northeast of Croatia, where the Drava flows into the Danube river. This area is under the protection of the Croatian law as special zoological reserve since 1976 and on the list of Ramsar convention, because of huge populations of different species of birds. Investigations on mosquitoes in the wetland of Kopački rit started in 1990, then stopped because of war and continued in 1998-2000. The main method used to collect mosquitoes was CDC traps baited with dry ice. Traps were operated once a month from May to September and worked out for 24 hours. Three localities were chosen: the first one was Čonakut - the willow forest ; the second one: Hordovanj, a little higher terrace poplar forest and the third one: Kopačko lake, the middle of a lake on willow trees under a colony of cormorants. The mosquito fauna of Kopački rit is represented by 7 species. The most numerous species is Aedes vexans with 61%. Anopheles messeae (12%), Culex pipiens (7%) and Aedes cinereus (4%) are also numerous. The species of Ochlerotatus sticticus, Ochlerotatus caspius and Anopheles hyrcanus are also present. The composition of the fauna is different from year to year and depends on the water level in the area during the season. The number of generations of particular species and their numerousity depends on flood lasting or fluctuation of flood.
