Sažetak
Transition countries had to deal with their socialist or plan-based background. Banks had a very different role in those countries - they were the "financial service" to the state-owned enterprises and government that had goals different form profit maximization. That led to loss making and suppressing of any kind of entrepreneurial incentive in banking. The end of the nineties meant the end of the decade of transition with fast-growing convergence towards Europe, adn fast development, including the development of financial markets.
