Sažetak
In Croatia, and all over the world, it can to detect and recognize numerous inadequate procedures exercised upon children in hospitals. Those circumstances become the basis for the development of the world idea of the "open hospital" in relation to children. "For the child`s smile in hospital" is the action for humanization of children`s hospital treatment ; taken place in Croatia since 1999. The action starting from the UN Convention on Children`s Right and applying the European Charter on children in hospital, passed by the European Parliament in 1986. the action is carried out in hospitals and the children`s wards during all the time children spend in hospital, through joint meaningful participation of medical staff and professional experts outside the hospital, the "Society Our Children" and similar associations and institutions. The programme of the action consist of the following requirements: the annual plan of hospital/ward for this action ; admission of the child into hospital provided it is the best solution for the child itself ; maximal shortening of the stay in hospital ; holistic approach to sick child ; unlimited parent`s visits or stay with child ; parental participation in the nursing and treatment ; pedagogical, cultural and entertainment contents for children ; games and the activities that children themselves choose and participate in them ; create a more improved and functional hospital environment. Children`s hospital and wards that fulfil all the listed programme requirements in more than 80%, are awarded the honorary title "Children`s Hospital ward-friend of children". At present 34 children`s wards participatein action, and we hope that some of them will be first "Children`s Hospital ward-friend of children" on the end of this year. Besides evaluation and assessment, now is priority to decentalsation if action on the regional level for successful cordination and leading. The visits of the members Coordinating Committee to children`s wards shows very positive implications of action on children and their parents, and necessary to develop better communication relations in all level of paediatric care.
