Sažetak
Osteopontin (OPN)is a phosphoprotein with diverse functions, including cancer development, progression and metastases. In this study, the expression of osteopontin was immunohistochemically assessed in 123 renal-cell carcinomas (RCC) and compared to usual prognostic parameters. The OPN protein was upregulated in 50 RCC (45.5%) of conventional type (CRCC), and this upregulation correlated with tumor size (p<0.05), Fuhrman nuclear grade (p<0.0005) and pathological stage (p<0.01). All papillary RCC showed strong and diffuse cytoplasmic positivity, irrespective of nuclear grade. The collecting duct carcinoma also showed strong and diffuse expression of OPN protein.
