Sažetak
The aim of the study was to evaluate subjective outcomes and celular marker level (ECP, MPO and tryptase) in sinus lavage in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) after endosinusal steroid / antibiotic treatment. 30 patients with symptoms of CRS were recruited for the study. Inclusion criteria were sinusitis symptoms more than three months and mucosal thickening of the maxillary sinus mucosa > 6 mm, so it was considered as maxillary sinusitis. Patients with asthma, polyposis, recent infection, systemic steroid therapy or previous sinus surgery were excluded. Patients were treated endosinusally with 2 mg Dexamethasone and 40 mg Gentamycine per maxillary sinus for 5 days. Patients rated CRS disease-specific symptoms and completed a self-administered questionnaire concerning sinusitis symptoms at inclusion and after 30 days. Sinus lavage, collected at inclusion and after the endosinusal treatment, was analysed for ECP, MPO and tryptase concentration. Significant improvement was noted for overall sinusitis symptoms score for the overall sinusitis symptoms score (p<0.01) and for obstruction, postnasal drip, headache, sneezing and cough (p< 0.05) in the study group as a whole. There is positive correlation between celular marker (ECP, MPO and tryptase) concentration in sinus lavage. There is no statisticaly significant change in sinus lavage concentration of these celular markers at inclusion and after the endosinusal treatment. Results indicate that endosinusal steroid/antibiotic treatment is effective as menagment for the patients with chronic maxillary sinusitis.
