Sažetak
Discrete wavelet transform is a basic step in all wavelet-based image compression methods. It makes the choice of wavelet as one of the crucial parameters in image coding process and determines the quality of compressed image. In this paper we examine properties of various biorthogonal wavelet filter banks and its compression capabilities. For evaluation of compression performance we use Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) compression algorithm. Our results show that performance of original SPIHT algorithm can be improved by careful choice of wavelet filter banks.
