Sažetak
Intermolecular hydrogen bonding of 1, 1'-bi-2-naphthol with N, N-dimethylformamide has been investigated. UV/vis and FTIR spectra of the 1, 1'-bi-2-naphthol - N, N-dimethylformamide system in different solvents, from polar to nonpolar, as functions of concentration were recorded. The formation constant of the complex, determined from the concentration-dependant spectra, was found to be 21 dm3mol-1 in dichloromethane and 19 dm3mol-1 in carbon tetrachloride. The infrared spectra of the system show characteristic OH stretching band shifts of 89 and 388 cm-1 towards the lower wavenumbers in the dichloromethane solution. This shift is result of formation of the hydrogen bond between carbonyl moiety of N, N-dimethylformamide and hydroxyl groups of 1, 1'-bi-2-naphthol. The complex structure of the formed band is a clear evidence that several species are present in the system. Thermodynamic data have also been determined.
