Sažetak
The paper presents results of a research and development project with the aim to determine techno-economic feasibility of combined heat and power generation (cogeneration) based on an indirectly (externally) fired gas turbine (IFGT) cycle using biomass fuel. The concept of direct (internal) biomass fired gas turbine system has significant technical defects due to the problems caused by corrosion and fouling of the gas turbine internals. The indirectly fired gas turbine concept overcomes this problem by using a heat exchanger to transfer heat from the biomass flue gases to clean compressed air subsequently expanding in a turbine. The investigation is directed toward small-scale (200-500 kWe) cogeneration systems intended for distributed generation heat and power on locations where an adequate quantity of biomass is disposable. Specific objectives of this project are: to carry-out an engineering study for deriving optimum parameters of the working cycle, to establish technical aspects relating to the development and design of a suitable combustion chamber (furnace) with a high-temperature heat exchanger and to assess economics of the proposed energy system. A separate detail analysis is made in the scope of this project to optimise the cyclone type furnace for saw-dust combustion.
