Sažetak
Background and purpose: Phoxinellus adspersus (Heckel 1843) is known as rare endemic freshwater fish from Dinaric Karst, but there was a lack of its detailed biometry description. This study was conducted with the aim of providing first detailed biometric description of this fish species. Materials and methods: In order to reduce impact on this endangerous endemic fish, limited sampling was allowed, and 14 specimens were collected from the world’ s largest sinkhole Red Lake (Imotski, Croatia). Fish biometry was analysed according 18 mensural and ten meristic characters. Lengths and weights were measured with accuracy of ± ; 0.01 cm and ± ; 0.01 gram. Sample statistics were used to describe numerical results, and 0.05 a-level was applied in all statistical tests. Results and conclusions: Total lengths of analysed specimens ranged 7.32-11.56 cm (Lt(mean± ; SE)=9.56± ; 0.391), and weighted 4.36-18.79 grams (weight(mean± ; SE)=12.51± ; 1.515). It was found that head length enters in the standard body length 3.20-3.75 times ; predorsal lengths 1.81-1.95 times ; preanal length 1.38-1.62 times ; prepectoral length 3.46-4.19 times ; preventral length 1.76-1.97 times ; dorsal fin base 8.67-12.21 times ; anal fin base 8.92-17.54 times ; pectoral fin 4.05-5.66 times ; ventral fin 5.39-8.12 times ; caudal fin 3.77-4.85 times ; max. body depth 3.43-4.17 times and min. body depth 8.31-10.47 times. Eye diameter enters in the head length 3.89-5.36 times ; interorbital bony width 2.70-3.67 times ; snout length 3.25-4.20 times and postorbital head length 1.71-2.01 times. All mensural characters were normally distributed. Meristic features were: D=(8)9(10) ; A=8-9(10) ; C=3(4)+17– 18(20)+3(4) (23-26) ; P=(10)14-15 ; V=8(9) ; Vert.=37 ; Ph.t=4-5 ; L.lat=62-64 ; L.latsup=15-16 and L.latinf=7-8. Length-weight relationship is described by equation: W(g)=0.0156xLt2.9233. The mean value of Fulton’ s condition factor was 13.40± ; 0.819.
