Sažetak
The paper has examined how theatre institutions (above all the state-controlled Croatian National Theatre), particular theatrical events and political spectacles were engaged in the process of invention, legitimation, reproduction and naturalisation of the dogmatic, essentialist concept of the nation, national identity and body, as well as the authoritarian and autocratic regime built up on the basis of the imposed national interest and programme? How was totalitarian nationalism of the nineties transformed into a kind of pop-nationalism in the recent years? And which strategies of counter-performing have been tried out to resist or even subvert the dominant socio-political and aesthetic paradigm?
