Sažetak
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: It is important to differentiate patients with acute pancreatitis who have an increased risk for development of local and systemic complications. In our study we investigated the role of acute pancreatitis aetiology for development of complications in patients with acute pancreatitis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In our prospective study we included 263 patients with diagnosis of acute pancreatitis admitted to our hospital during last four years. The inclusion criteria consisted of combination of clinical features, a typical case history, elevation of serum pancreatic enzymes and diagnosis confirmed by imaging studies (US or CT).We analysed local and systemic complications in our patients according to aetiology of acute pancreatitis. RESULTS: Thirty out of 54 patients (55, 6%) with alcoholic aetiology, 30 out of 148 patients with biliary aetiology (20, 3%), 6 out of 11 patients (54, 6%) with hypertriglyceridemia and 17 out of 50 (34%) patients with other aetiologies developed local or systemic complications. Patients with alcohol related disease spent significantly (p<0, 05) more time in Intensive Care Unit - ICU (3 days vs. 1, 4 days for biliary pancreatitis, 1, 1 days for hypertriglyceridemia and 1, 6 days for other aetiologies). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with alcoholic pancreatitis developed more local and systemic complications and spent significantly more time in ICU than patients with acute pancreatitis caused by other aetiologies.
