Sažetak
The presence of Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) in Satsuma mandarins (Citrus unshiu Marc.) in the region of Neretva Valley has been previously reported. In the course of a biomolecular characterization of isolates from Croatia 15 budsticks from field infected ELISA-positive sources were collected in the autumn 2003. Typical tristeza stem-pitting (CTV-SP) could be observed in four isolates, originated from Sweet Oranges (Fukumoto and Washington Navels), Ichimaru Satsuma and Citrus wilsonii. The bark from the infected sources was analyzed by immunocapture RT-PCR targeting the whole coat protein (CP) gene. The amplicons of interest were cloned, sequenced and their phylogenetic status established. It has been generally admitted that these kind of CTV strains do not exist in the Mediterranean basin. The findings reported here constitute a potential change in the epidemiological scenario of the Mediterranean basin.
