Sažetak
The Major Hystocompatibility Complex (MHC) or Human Leucocyte Antigen (HLA) system in man spans 4000kb on the short arm of chromosome 6 (6p21.3) and contains a high number of genes (1). It is well known that HLA genes play an important role in many different fields of biomedicine, e.g. immune response, HLA-associated diseases, tissue and organ transplantation as well as in anthropology and evolution. The presence of DNA repeat sequences reported in the 1970s which showed high allelic polymorphism and simplicity of their typing, offered a possibility of application of these new genetic makers in the above mentioned fields of biomedicine.
