Sažetak
The recent advent of new flat panel organic displays follows the long struggle for extended device lifetime. Many modifications proposed along this way have been based on trial and error. Recent insight shows that most of them were implicitly fighting against the strong current channeling, intrinsic for charge injection and conduction in organic amorphous materials. In this contribution we shortly review the basic physics of transport and recombination in disordered organic structures in high electric filed. Several sources of current channeling are then discussed in detail through theoretical modeling of injection ad transport. These include the electrode roughness, correlated disorder in the bulk of the material and properties of organic heterojunction structures. The scenarios leading to current homogenization are then discussed through 3D simulations of the charge transport in multilayer structures. We argue that at least some of the scenarios that we find were tacitly involved in recent structural modifications in OLED (organic light emitting diodes). This includes the deposition of special thin films (10mn) on electrodes, smooth (graded and intermixed) organic heterjunctions and charge doping of organic layers. Finally, we consider some possibilities for more direct experimental observations of current channeling.
