Sažetak
During a half-year period in 1990, the occurence and frequency of losses of live-born piglets were observed on the "Dubravica" pig-breeding farm, near Zagreb, Croatia. In order to establish the reasons for losses among suckling piglets, a mortality causes classification based on the international SNOVET system, part of the National Animal Health Monitoring System (launched in the USA 1985), was applied. From a total of 2010 live-born piglets lost, 41, 4 % persihed due to gastrointestinal syndrome, 37, 8 % from overlaying, 8, 0 % from inanitio neonatorum, 7, 6 % were culled, 3, 3 % died of bronchopneumonia and 1, 9 % of cachexia. Assembling and systematizing data in such a way, presents an active strategy for future reduction and control of losses among suckling piglets.
