Sažetak
Some phages survive irradiation much better upon multiple than upon single infection, a phenomenon known as multiplicity reactivation (MR). Long ago MR of UV-inactivated lred phage in E. coli cells was shown to be a manifestation of uvrA-independent, recA-dependent recombinational DNA repair. We have recently analyzed MR of UV-inactivated lred in a number of bacterial mutants deficient in DNA recombination and/or repair. The results have shown that MR is abolished in ruvC and ssb mutants, reduced in lexA (Ind-), polA, recF, recG, ruvA, and ruvB mutants, and not affected in mutH, mutL, mutS, recB, recJ, recQ, and uvrD mutants. From the early and recent results we infer that MR is based on a type of recombinational repair acting on multiple copies of gapped DNA and that this type of repair is closely related to the RecF SbcBR pathway of recombination.
