Sažetak
Planning, designing, building and maintaining of forest roads have been the basic components of a complex procedure of establishing the optimum network of forest roads on the terrain. These components have been interpenetrated and have been strongly connected one with another, which means that another stage of work cannot be started before the previous stage has been completed in a quality way. The final aim of designing a comprehensive optimum forest road network has to meet various criteria of optimality evaluation: economical, technical-technological, environmental-ecological and sociological-aesthetic. While quite a lot is known about the first two criteria of optimality evaluation, environmental-ecological and sociological-aesthetic criteria have so far been in the background. This paper tries, according to the stage of planning and designing of forest roads, to define basic guidelines which should serve as a signpost to forest experts how to find really best possible solutions, how to harmonise all simple and dominant influential factors of a certain criterion of judgement evaluation and how to choose, from all the relevant standpoints, the best routes of forest roads and how to make quality projects for them.
