Sažetak
The Molecular Biology education started nineteen years ago at Biology Department, Faculty of Science, University of Zargeb. Since the academic year 1984/85 till now there is a great interest for this study, 300 candidates compete for only 30-35 available places in the first year. Majority of students complete their study in a predicted time (a period of 5 years). For example, last month (30/10/03) 423 students graduated in molecular biology. They are mostly able to find job in our country, but more than 30% are still going abroad. In Croatia and in all over the world they usually continue education at post graduated and doctoral studies. Many of students that have graduated at Faculty of Science have today very respectable positions in Croatia and abroad as well. Postgraduate study of the Cell and Molecular Biology at Faculty of Science has been established in 1987/88 academic year and since than there have been great interest (today 66 have MSc degree in Molecular Biology). Department of Molecular Biology was founded in 1989 with the aim to promote research programs in molecular biology and to introduce and organize a new study profile in the field of modern biology. Today, Department of Molecular Biology includes several research groups working on plant, animal and human biology.
