Sažetak
The 46 porcine serum samples were taken from animals of two biggest pig-breeding farms in Croatia, where sporadic cases of salmonellosis were diagnosed. Beside these, testing was carried out for 46 samples of porcine meat juices obtained from imported carcasses. The samples were tested by VetSign Porcine Salmonella Antibody ELISA Kit (VP 020) (Guildhay Ltd, England).Among 46 serum samples 9 of them were positive or suspective which indicate an incidence of >19% of the tested herds that were infected with salmonella. Detection of antibodies in meat juices samples resulted with 2 positive and 2 suspect samples (8.6%), which points to deal of work done by many organizations with regard to the identification and eradication of salmonellosis. In summary, the results suggest that commercial test kit could be used for research of any Salmonella antibody prevalence in purpose for herd profiling as management tool to confirm whether a herd has been exposed to Salmonella and therefore whether there likely to be carrier pigs, than for herd monitoring to confirm whether bought in stock has been exposed to Salmonella and also as a screening tool for monitoring in pork production systems for categorizing herds due to quality assurance programs and food-safety.
