Sažetak
All patients who suffered from myocardial infarction (MI) during the period of 15 years, from 1979 through 1993 were included in the study. The source of data was population-based acute myocardial infarction register of Zagreb. The authours surveyed incidence, mortality and case fatality rates for MI. Incidence and mortality rates showed an increasing tendency in both women and men while case fatality decreased between 1979 and 1993, most markedly for women. The crude incidence rate for all age-groups was in 1979 for women 92.3 and for men 186.0 per 100, 000. In 1993 it increased in women up to 160.4 and in men up to 317.0 per 100, 000. The crude mortality rate in women was in 1979 57.0 and in men 115.0 per 100, 000.. In 1993 it increased in women up to 103.0 and in men 201.0 per 100, 000. Nearly half of the MI patients died (49%) and two thirds of deaths occured before the patients reached the hospital. Case fatality rate was higher in women than in men, but it decreased in women from 69.5% in 19979 to 55.0% in 1993. It did not change much in men and was about 50% during the observed period of 15 years.
