Sažetak
Polymer-layered silicate nanocomposites represent a relatively new class of organic-inorganic hybrid materials of interest for fundamental materials research studies, as well as commercial application. Nanoscale dispersion of the inorganic component typically optimizes the mechanical properties of composite. The smctite clays (montmorillonite, hectorite) and related layered silicates are the materials of choice for polymer nanocomposites design, mainly because of their rich intercalation chemistry which allows them to be chemically modified and to become compatible with the polymer precursors. In this work the organic-inorganic composites based on a commercial epoxy resin and a layered silicate, organically modified mineral of natural clay, montmorillonite, were prepared by in situ polymerization and characterized. Montmorillonite was modified by octadecylamine. As a curing agent of epoxy resin a commercial poly(oxypropylene) diamine (Jeffamine D230) was used. The influence of the filler on the kinetics of polymerization was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Montmorillonite clay and prepared composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) .
