Sažetak
1) The aim of this study was to assess the influence of hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) on the rat liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy (PH). (2) Rats were sacrified 54 h after 15% PH, liver and body weight were measured, and serum alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) activity, and albumin level were determined. The lipid peroxide level (as indicated by malondialdehid production) in the remnant liver was measured, and liver sections were analyzed by light-microscopy. (3) Five groups of rats were studied. Groups pre-hyperbaric oxygenated (preHBO) and pre-hyperbaric treated (preHB) were treated before PH with 100% O2 and with 21% O2, respectively at 202650 pascals, three times 45 min/day. Control group was not treated before PH and recovered after PH at normal ambient conditions. Groups postHBO and postHB were treated after PH with HBO and HB, respectively, three times (45 min/day). (4) In the preHBO group we detected a significant increase in the starting process of the liver mass restitution 54 h postoperatively. In addition, preHBO group didn't show significant signs of liver dysfunction (evaluated by ALT and AST activities) and it showed significant decrease in serum albumin level in comparison to control group. Liver lipid peroxides concentration was the lowest in the preHBO group and the light microscopy findings revealed that the lobules composition of preHBO group liver was the closest to normal histological features. (5) These results suggest that HBO-pretreatment was beneficial for the rat liver regeneration after PH.
