Sažetak
Classical swine fever (CSF) is one of the most contagious List A diseases of swine according to the Office International des Epizooties (OIE). The causative agent of CSF is an RNA virus from the family Flaviviridae, genus Pestivirus. Even though great effort has been done to eradicate the disease, it is still a threat for the pig industry worldwide. During the past two decades, outbreaks of CSF have been reported in different parts of Europe and were followed by great economic losses (1). Apart from swill feeding, wild boars may play an important role in spreading of the virus (2). In the period of 1997 to 2001 sporadic outbreaks in domestic pigs and wild boars were reported in Croatia and genetically highly related isolates have been identified (3). As a result of these preliminary findings, since 2000, monitoring of samples derived from hunted wild boars has been implemented as an obligatory control measure against CSF. In this work we are presenting the results of the occurrence of CSF in pigs and wild boars from 2001 to 2003.
