Vitamin B6; PQQ-dependent Proteins
Sažetak
The book brings most recent informa-tion on proteins whose function is dependent upon vitamin B6, PQQ, or other quinones. Emerging informa-tion about their structure and kinetics, regulation of their gene expression, evolutionary aspects, as vvell as their potential biotechnological applications, is de-scribed in detail, in simple and easy-to-read language. Physicians would probably find the eleventh chapter, "Molecular pathojogy and medicine", the most inter-esting. It (Jiscusses clinical aspects and potential thera-peutic aplications, suc:h as the role of branched chain aminotrasferase isoenzymes in the central nervous sys-tem ; the role of GABA-aminotransferase as a target for antiepileptic drug therapy ; influence of the lysyl oxi-dase activity on the development of fibrosis ; therapeu-tic: potential of pyridoxin, dopa decarboxylase, and tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives in Parkison's dis-ease ; and possible mechanism and application of the supraphysiological doses of vitamin B6 in antineopla-stic therapy.
