Sažetak
Proof positive that most residents of this planet are addicted to bathing is that few questions are asked more commonly in clinical dermatology than "What is the best way for me to clean my skin or hair?", "Which soap do you recommend?", "Are soapless soaps better than 'soap soaps'?" The ball is now in the court of the dermatologist who needs to be familiar with the physiologic action of cleansing products, their composition, cosmetic benefits, and safety as well as with their potential hazards. But, please, no more victims of advertisements: this knowledge must be acquired from objective, independent, peer-reviewed scientific literature, and not from promotional sheets or from biased and pseudoscientific articles that are distributed in great quantity by the same manufacturers who started with this brainwashing! We will try to briefly present what we hope is objective and even-handed information for the practicing dermatologist and expose some myths, beliefs and misconceptions for what they are. We will argue that the majority of consumers will tolerate any kind of soap for ordinary personal use and with no harm done to their skin or pocketbooks. The majority of consumers have no need to be concerned whether a soap has a very high degree of mildness, just as long as it is aimed at cleaning the skin, in contrast to detergents aimed at cleaning clothes or dishes. Finally to the main question, the subject of the present symposium - the use of soap in atopic dermatitis will be addressed.
