Sažetak
Metabolic parameters were determined in fasting blood serum, fasting first morning urines, 2-hour urines, and 24-hour urines of male patients with calcium oxalate stones (n=26, age 39.1 +/- 6.2 years) and male healthy controls (n=18, age 35.0 +/- 7.1 years), which were recruited from eastern part of Croatia. The urinary calcium excretion in 24 hours was higher (p<0.01) for patients (5.6 +/- 2.5 mmol) than for controls (3.7 +/- 1.9 mmol) and potassium excretion was lower (p<0.01) for patients (49.2 +/- 15.7 mmol) than for controls (74.5 +/- 33.8 mmol). The mean value of ionic activity product of calcium and oxalate ions, IAP(CaOx), calculated from the fasting urine parameters, was higher for patients than for controls, but the difference was not statistically significant. Very strong correlation was observed between IAP(CaOx) values and calculated Ogawa indexes that indicate estimated potential risk for calcium oxalate stone formation. The most frequent metabolic disorders in the group of calcium oxalate stone-formers were hyperoxaluria and hypercalciuria.
