Sažetak
Dental ceramics are considered to be the most inert of all dental materials. In literature, there is an insufficiency of data regarding corrosion of specific type of dental ceramic. The purpose of this investigation was to analyze chemical durability of one type of glass ceramic according to ISO standard. Ten specimens of IPS-Empress 2 ceramic (Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) for layering technique and ten specimens of IPS-Empress 2 ceramic for staining were prepaid. Waxed profiles, dimension 10x10x2 mm, were invested for preparing the specimens. After a final preparation, the weights of specimens were checked and the specimens were placed in 4% acetic solution (ISO- Standard 6872 for dental ceramic). After sixteen hours of immersion, the specimens were cleaned with distilled water, dried and their weight was checked again. Possible weight loss was calculated (µ ; ; g/cm2). From solutions, in which the specimens were placed, concentrations of eluted ions were measured. The concentrations of Na+, K+, Ca2+ were determinate with atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) and concentration of Si4+ and Al3+ with UV/VIS spectrophotometer. The results were statistically evaluated with descriptive statistic and Mann-Whitney test. The statistical analysis showed the significant differences (p<0.05) in chemical durability between tested groups of specimens. Specimens of IPS-Empress 2 ceramic for layering showed significantly greater chemical stability (p<0.05) then specimens of IPS-Empress 2 ceramic for staining. They, also, eluted significantly less ions, except for potassium ions, where the difference between the groups of specimens was not statistically significant. The chemical durability of tested glass ceramics is well below the limit allowed by ISO-Standard 6872. The estimated differences between the groups of specimens are probably caused by their different chemical composition on specimen's surface. The significance of this study is the evidence that, even for the ceramic materials with similar chemical composition and same commercial name, the chemical durability could not be predicted.
