Sažetak
Smoking is a main risk factor for the development of destructive periodontal diseases. The study was conducted on 517 high- school students aged 14-18 years. Data concerning age, social status, smoking, smoking of parents, oral hygiene and dental attandance was taken, together with CPI and LA scores. Bleeding was more frequent in non-smokers (4.61) than in smokers (4.19). Smokers had significantly more sextants with calculus (1.47) than non-smokers (o.88). LA was significantly greater in smokers (1.68) than in non-smokers (1.59). Annual LA in regular and intensive smokers measured 0.07mm. The study revealed that smoking has an influence on periodontal helath even in this age population.
