Sažetak
Aster novi-belgii and Aster novae-angliae are species in which flowering can be regulated by changing environmental conditions. Their cultivars Aster novi-belgii 'Mary Ballard' and Aster novae-angliae 'September Ruby' have the potential as flowering pot-plants, but since cultivars are too tall for cultivation in pots it is necesary to regulate the lenght of the shoot. The influence of photoperiodism and growth regulator was researched on the species during late summer cultivation in the open. The total number of buds and flower-heads (in inflorescence) of both species was higher under natural daylight period as compared to plants cultivated under a shortened photoperiod (10 hours of daylight during the period of five weeks). The average number of open flower was considerably higher in both species when cultivated by shortening the daylight period. Foliage appliacation of daminozide succinic acid-2, 2-dimethylhydrazide (0.2 and 0.4 percent) resulted in a higher number of buds in both species and has also shown as active in reducing the plant lenght for 6-14 percent. At the same time there was no influence on the diameter of the plants.
