Sažetak
Periapical and panoramic radiographs are often used in dentistry for need of the future treatment planning. The aim of the study was to find out whether it is possible to assess the local quality of mandibular bone structure on both periapical and panoramic radiographs using the method of clinical bone densitometry. The total of 12 patients were routinely screened by periapical and 12 by panoramic radiograph. A copper stepwedge was attached to the bottom of film to give a reference image on the radiographs. Radiographs were digitised and inverted. The mean grey levels were measured. The measurements were expressed in the equivalents of the actual copper stepwedge thickness for each image using DenEx 2001. The comparison of the values of equivalents of the copper stepwedges and of the region of the interest, on the periapical and panoramic digitised image revealed that the difference between them is within 10%.
