Sažetak
The purpose of the measurement was to determine which muscles predominantly participated in the selected back strengthening exercises. M.erector spinae and m.trapezius were subjected to the measuring procedure. The largest back muscle m.latissimus dorsi was not included in the measurement because. Namely, it is only partially skin-deep located ; most of it is covered by other back muscles. The method of kinesiological electromyography was employed to gain precise information about the observed muscles' contraction size. The obtained results were visually analyzed. The graphic representations make it obvious that m.trapezius was maximally recruited in the third exercise (backward arm hold, palms on the gluteal muscles), whereas activation of the m.erector spinae was equally strong in the second (lateral pull down) and the first exercise (arms stationary with the hands beneath the forehead). Further, the great difference in activation was obtained between the left and the right side of the both observed muscles. The exercises selected for this measurement are beneficial to development of the musculature of the back, specially to the lower part of it (lumbar vertebra). If performed everyday, as a component of chronic exercising, these workouts may significantly improve the body posture, decrease lower back pain, and, generally, make the back muscles stronger.
