Sažetak
The article concentrates upon border theory by considering the case of the Habsburg Military Border in the 18th and 19th centuries. Borderlands are presented as contiguous extensions of political, military and religious colonisation. In the case of the Habsburg Military Border in Croatia one can consider the introdution of social discipline by militarizing the society. But, since this process was conditioned only by military needs, the outcome would be a blend of modernity and pre-modern values. This can be seen also in the case of Nation building, where religious confession - and not language - is playing the dominant role.
