Sažetak
Background and purpose. Remnant liver after partial hepatectomy (PH) demands an increased amount of oxygen supply to restore hepatic energy. Therefore we examined weather hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) could increase recovering after PH. Materials and methods. Several biochemical parameters were determined, in serum of 1 month aged male Wistar rats, 48 hours after PH and after two step HBO exposure (2h/day at 2 atm = 202650 pascals). In addition, liver sections were analysed by light-microscopy. Results. Alanine transaminase (ALT) (p < 0, 005) and aspartate transaminase (AST) (p < 0, 0005) were elevated, albumin (p < 0, 05), globulin (p < 0, 01) and total proteins (p < 0, 005) were decreased in serum of HBO-treated animals but percentage of body weight loss were significantly less (p < 0, 001) compared to control group which has been recovered after PH at normal ambient conditions. HBO-treated animals had increased pO2 (p < 0, 05) and percentage of hemoglobin oxygen saturation (p < 0, 05). Bicarbonate (HCO3-) were decreased (p < 0, 01) and accordingly base deficit in blood (BEb) and in extra-cellular fluids (BEecf) were higher (both p < 0, 05) in HBO-treated group compared to control. Light microscopy finding of newly replicated hepatocytes which form clusters without sinusoids indicated increased hepatocyte proliferation. Conclusions. HBO-treatment applied was not benefitial, but rather slightly toxic upon recovery of young rats after partial hepatectomy, and additional studies are needed to determine optimal oxygen dose.
