Sažetak
Mate Ujević is the author of the autobiographical novel Mladost Tome Ivića (The Youth of Toma Ivić). Although this is a novel of no particular literary value, newer interpretations (Hameršak) emphasize the possibility of different readings. One of them refers to the presence of the elements of satire on different types of social anomalies. The humorous aspect of Ujević’s novel, realized primarily in a cynical and satirical key, and the influence of oral genres typical of the region Ujević comes from served as a link with contemporary memoirs, a very common contemporary (literary) form predominantly linked with humorous oral genres of anecdote and life stories. An example of contemporary memoirs is a collection of „local” records Izgubljeno selo: zgode iz solinskoga seoskog parlamenta (The Lost Village: Adventures in the Solin Village Parliament) by Marko Matijević. The text was selected randomly, due to the author’s current reading practice. It should be emphasized that any booklet of memoirs, similar to this one and very popular on „the reader market” today, could be used as an example since this is a well-known and interesting research phenomenon of memory recording. Aware of the lability of the connection between the compared texts, the aim of the author of this paper is to consider the possibilities of the literary use of humor in overcoming reality, i.e. to observe different dimensions of humor as a reconciling factor in the faction – fiction relation, especially in the context of literary genres of oral origin.
