Sažetak
This paper presents an extensive experimental study on the resistance and propulsion characteristics of the Japan Bulk Carrier in off- design conditions. The experimental campaign is carried out for a ship model at a scale of 40.264 for three loading conditions. Resistance, open water, and self-propulsion tests were performed at the Brodarski Institute for a wide range of speeds. Four extrapolation methods, based on different assumptions, were applied to predict the resistance and propulsion characteristics of the full-scale ship from model-scale experiments. The differences between the results obtained by different extrapolation methods and the effect of loading conditions on ship resistance and propulsion characteristics are discussed. This study provides a benchmark database for the validation of Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations.
