Sažetak
Marine environment has adverse effect on the exposed structures. Harsh environmental conditions cause corrosion, which tends to affect the integrity of marine structures. To be able to better understand the behavior of materials in the marine environment, experimental analysis proves invaluable. However, most of the experimental research today is performed in laboratory conditions and in accelerated manner. There is a certain lack of long-term studies that are performed in the real marine environment. This plenary talk discusses the experimental study of marine environment effect on the welded steel and the failures that occur consequently. Butt-welded steel specimens, exposed for prolonged periods to real corrosive environment, experience change of weight and a degradation of the mechanical properties. Surface damage is non-uniform as it differs along the different regions of the specimens – base metal, heat-affected zone and weld metal. Collected experimental data show that continuous exposure to sea waves generally has the most negative effect on the mechanical properties of the selected material and that their degradation is generally most rapid in the first six months of the exposure. Weld metal part of the specimens generally copes the best with the severe influence of the corrosive environment. Plenary talk will also deal with numerical modelling and simulation of the corrosion effect onto the mechanical properties of selected material.
