Sažetak
Background: PTA (percutaneous transluminal angioplasty) using POBA (plain old balloon angioplasty) has long been the gold standard for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). According to conducted research comparing POBA with ‘scoring’ balloon, treatment of highly calcified arterial lesions using POBA is associated with a large number of dissections and restenoses. Also, the development of ‘scoring’ balloon is considered an essential interventional tool for lesion preparation prior to stent implantations or drug-coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty. Methods: We want to report a single center experience with ‘scoring’ balloons used in PTA treatment of severely calcified lesions of external iliac artery and femoropopliteal segment as well as stenosed dialysis arteriovenous fistulas. In all procedures we used the ‘scoring’ balloon NSE (B.Braun) in combination with DCB Ranger (Boston Scientific). Results: Although it is too early for detailed conclusions due to too small sample of those treated with ‘scoring’ ballon, the follow up showed that the patency of all treated vessels was maintaned. In all treated patients, a satisfactory result was achieved using ‘scoring’ balloon, eventually in combination with DCB, without the need for stent implantation. Conclusion: New interventional tools, including the ‘scoring’ balloon, provide improved options in the treatment of PAD. Although the results of the studies conducted so far are promising, future detailed research on a larger number of patients are needed
