Sažetak
Franjo Ks. Kuhač, the “Father of the Croatian Musicology“, published his opus magnum in the Collection Južno-slovjenske narodne popievke [South-Slavic Folk-Songs] (1878-1881 ; 1941). His second large important legacy is undoubtedly his correspondence: 13 books of his letters (1860- 1911) has been preserved in the Croatian State Archives. The first book was published in two parts in 1989 and 1992, and recently, within the project of “Musical Networking in the ‘long 19th Century’”, the second and the third book, with letters mostly written in German (1864-1874), have been prepared for publication as transcriptions and translations into Croatian with comments. On the chosen case studies, the presentation intends to show Kuhač’s views on some contemporary events of political, cultural and musical/musicological/pedagogical nature, as well as on some of his contemporaries. It will be observed in the context of the turbulent political events on one side, and his own musicological output and private situation on the other.
