Sažetak
This paper focuses on the analysis of eight newspaper articles representing the issue of sexismin language from two American and two British newspapers. The American newspapers include The New York Times and USA Today, whereas the British newspapers are the Telegraph and The Guardian. The analysis is pointed towards revealing underlying messages of the articles with an attempt to make the author’s attitude towards the referred issue visible. What is also of interest is the way authors represent the issue to the audience, what part of the problem they choose to display, and what devices they use to achieve their goals. The selected articles discuss different aspects of sexism in language and employ different writing styles and tones. On the basis of the analysis, it can be concluded that any representation of sexism in language in the public is relevant. Anything that succeeds in stimulating people to contemplate the issue might serve as a step towards social betterment.
