Sažetak
Among all known heterocyclic derivatives, nitrogen heterocycles has been widely used in the rational design of novel molecules with improved biological properties.[1] Thus, benzimidazole, benzothizole and imidazo[4, 5-b]pyridine derivatives have been well recognized as one of the most important privileged substructures and structural motifs in medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry. [2-3] In this work we have designed and synthesized coumarin and iminocoumarin-benzazole conjugates by using molecular hybridization approach. We have synthesized derivatives with the directly attached benzazole nuclei to the iminocoumarin ring as well as the derivatives with the acrylonitrile bond connecting the coumarin and benzimidazole nuclei. Target compounds were prepared by the cyclocondensation of the corresponding 2- cyanomethylbenzmidazoles, 2-benzothiazole- acetonitrile or 2-cyanomethylimidazo[4, 5- b]pyridine derivatives and corresponding heteroaromatic aldehydes and piperidine in absolute ethanol. All newly prepared coumarin and iminocoumarin-benzazole hybrids were structurally characterized by using 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and were evaluated for their antiproliferative activity in vitro on several cancer cells.
