Sažetak
Introduction: Cosmetic treatments and procedures have been well known from the ancient times, always as a premise having the beauty that follows, and never or rarely thinking about the unwanted reactions that may occur during them. Things changed in terms of procedures used but the beauty premise stays the same. Literature review and a case report: In this review we discuss the unwanted reactions of the most frequent cosmetic procedures performed out of the office practice such as hair and eyelash extensions that potentially lead to alopecia, contact allergic dermatitis (CAD) or infections. Manicures and pedicures may also result in infections, fungal or bacterial, but also CAD or even misleading signs and symptoms like pseudo psoriatic nails. Permanent makeup along with CAD leads to foreign body granulomas, sometimes even years after the application of pigments in the eyebrow or lip area. We report a case of such granuloma in the eyebrow region, a year after the application of the dye and three months after the tweezing of the eyebrows. Histology revealed confluent epitheloid granulomas, partially sarcoid, in the upper part of the dermis with lots of brown and black pigment between them which led us to perform extensive work up to exclude sarcoidosis. The total resolution of the lesions was achieved by application of topical corticosteroids twice daily in two cycles for three weeks. Conclusion: The cosmetic procedures outside the office might be minimally invasive but that does not exclude the potential risk or sometimes inevitable unwanted reaction. The awareness of such reactions should be raised among the clients and beauticians who perform them.
