Sažetak
Objectives: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease associated with systemic changes in immune response. Semaphorins were recently recognized as one of the key regulators of immune responses. The aim of this study was to detect semaphorins’ concentrations in patients with NAFLD. Methods: This was a prospective, non-interventional study. We collected demografic, anthropometric, clinical and laboratory data and analysed serum semaphorins concentrations in patients with NAFLD and healthy controls. Results: We included 70 patients with NAFLD (median age of 57, 4 years (IQR 46, 5 – 66, 4) ; 40 male and 30 female) and 24 healthy controls (9 male and 15 female). Median BMI in NAFLD group was 30 kg/m 2 (IQR 28, 2-32, 6) and 23 kg/m2 (IQR 21, 5- 26, 2) in non-NAFLD group. As far as of comorbidities, in NAFLD group 20 patients (28, 6%) had diabetes mellitus II and 37 (52, 9%) had arterial hypertension. Twenty patients had steatosis stage 1, 13 stage 2 and 37 stage 3. Stage F1 fibrosis had 22, 10 F2, 4 F3 and F4 patients. Fibroscan median value was 5, 9 kPa (IQR 4, 5-7, 2) and controlled attenuation parameter - CAP was 304 dB/m (IQR 278-333) in NAFLD group, unlike the non-NAFLD group with CAP median value 204 dB/m (IQR 184-219) and fibroelastography of 4, 35 kPa (IQR 3, 7-5, 5). Tested were 50 patients serum samples and semaphorins -3A, -4D, -5A and -7A were detected by ELISA test, and had increased concentrations as compared to healthy controls. Conclusion: Semaphorins -3A, -4D, -5A and -7A may be associated with NAFLD.
