Sažetak
The current geopolitical conditions accelerated the need to phase-out natural gas consumption. In order to model the phasing out of natural gas on a national level, it is crucial to know how the geographical distribution of natural gas consumption. This is a very challenging task in national energy systems with relatively scarce data on the subject, like Croatian. This work presents a GIS-based approach for natural gas consumption mapping. The proposed method implements a top-down approach. It enables the allocation of natural gas consumption on a high spatial level, based on the population distribution, as well as the existing district heating networks. The proposed approach is tested in QGIS, on the case study of Croatia. The results present spatial distribution of natural gas consumption on hectare level (100x100 m), for two essential sectors-households and services. This research is expected to be beneficial for defining technologies and measures for accelerated phasing out natural gas consumption.
